Cerdavale Health Retreat in NSW Program

Generally there are two types of detox programs. You may need one or even both programs:

  • This comes from living a less than ideal lifestyle from consuming excessive junk food which is high in sugar and fat, and is largely refined/processed, late night partying etc. It’s now time to have time out to refocus and give the body a tune-up. Some guests view it as an annual cleanse! (Of course we like to see our guests maintain an ongoing healthy lifestyle to keep the body in the best of health.) Maybe it’s time to give your body a ‘re-conditioning’
  • This type of detox/cleanse is where you have decided to quit smoking, alcohol, caffeine or other addictive substances. You realize that these habits are significantly affecting your personal health and well as possibly that of your family and workplace.

This is one of the major concerns in facing a detox program. While it is true that the first day or two can be a bit rough, our guests are often pleasantly surprised how well they manage to cope. With the help of the various therapies and other recommendations the withdrawals are minimised in their duration and intensity.

  • A sense of freedom and being in control of your life
  • Improved relationships with the family, workplace etc.
  • Improved energy
  • Weight loss and the realization that you can enjoy a lighter style of eating
  • Getting the most out of the nutrients we consume
  • Clearer skin, regular bowel movements, improved digestion
  • Increased concentration and clarity of thinking

Helpful support for detoxing include

Our hydrotherapy treatments, which are a powerful yet gentle way of detoxing. The Russian stem-bath treatment is a favourite. Not only is it good for detoxing, but it also leaves you feeling physically and mentally relaxed.

Incorporating the CHIP program

Cedarvale’s goal is to provide you with an environment where you not only feel relaxed and rejuvenated but also feel empowered to take charge of your health. For this reason we incorporate CHIP (Complete Health Improvement Program) as part of our program. The feedback we have received about this program from our guests is that it presents a credible way to prevent, treat and reverse lifestyle related diseases including obesity, high blood pressure, stress, reduce/stop alcohol, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes and coronary artery disease. This comprehensive lifestyle program is evidence based with over 20 scientific papers having been published to date reporting its positive results. As part of your CHIP experience you will be provided with a “lifestyle medicine tool kit”. Curious? We find it exciting to observe the life-changing impact CHIP has upon guests who thought their best days were behind them!

Cedarvale is nestled amongst 150 acres of temperate rainforest in beautiful Kangaroo Valley in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. The environment abounds with wildlife, waterfalls and walking trails. We’re an easy 2 hour drive from Sydney and Canberra and only 1 hour from Goulburn, Wollongong and the South Coast regions.

  • A diet high in antioxidants, when minimally processed, provides us with a wide variety of disease-preventing, health promoting phytochemicals. It cleanses the body and helps fight off free radicals, thus reducing chaos inside the body. There’s little evidence that ‘detox diets’ actually remove toxins from the body. The kidneys, liver and bowels effectively filter and/or eliminate most ingested toxins.
  • Fibre rich foods have an excellent cleansing effect on the bowel and removing toxins from the body.
  • Plenty of clear fluids with our very own spring water along with a range of herbal teas (which are freely available) are also beneficial to take.

Spa treatments

Cedarvale’s wide range of treatments are truly one of the highlights of your stay – they will change the way you feel! Whether it’s for relaxation, cleansing/detoxing, or some other therapeutic needs, our therapy supervisor will discuss with you on arrival which treatments will best meet your needs. Come and experience our health and spa retreat conveniently located near Sydney, NSW, and from Canberra we’re only a short drive!

You may wish to get a head start and browse through our treatments lists and see which ones appeal to your needs. Our treatments can generally be divided into three main categories:

  • Therapeutic massage (60 min): This massage is for those who prefer a firm technique. Therapeutic massage concentrates on working deep tissue and muscle layers to relieve muscle strain, tension, damage and congestion. Problem areas may be focused on more specifically if desired.
  • Swedish style massage (60 min or 30 min): A full body massage using Swedish-style techniques aimed at reducing the physiological impact of illness on the body by improving circulation. This massage technique works the soft tissue and muscles using gentle, flowing strokes. Back, legs, arms, neck and shoulders are thoroughly worked to relieve muscular aches and pains as well as relieving stress and anxiety.
  • Hot pack massage (60 min): A unique massage that combines the muscle relaxant and circulation enhancing benefits of hot packs, followed by massage. Problem areas can be focused on as needed. Beneficial for inducing relaxation and relieving sore/tight muscles.
  • Upper body (45 min): Many of us carry stress and tension in our upper body. This massage treatment concentrates on easing this tension from the shoulders, back, neck, and chest. Your therapist works using a combination of deep tissue techniques and Swedish stretches.
  • Foot massage (20 min): Many conditions are assisted in their recovery through stress and relaxation treatments. One effective medium to achieve this is having your feet massaged. Sit back, listen to quiet music, and feel your stress and tension melt away while sore feet disappear.

Russian steam bath with aqua massage (60 min): This highly effective treatment has a broad range of therapeutic uses. While accelerating your body’s cleansing and detoxification processes, it also boosts immune function, metabolism and circulatory function. A mini-sauna is given with the advantage of having the head free of steam vapours. Fluids are given throughout the treatment, while the face and head are kept cool once perspiration begins. Depending on the desired physiological effect, your therapist may include two or more cycles of contrast showers during the treatment. The treatment concludes with an invigorating combination of a cool shower with contrast (hot/cool) aqua massage.

Hot pack super treatment (60 min): This treatment is excellent for localised conditions where there is congestion, pain, inflammation, cramping or spasm. It is also highly beneficial for certain specific organ conditions (e.g. liver or kidney). A series of moist, hot packs are applied for several minutes to the affected area with intervals of brief, vigorous applications of cold. This treatment has been proven effective for a range of conditions such as joint/nerve pain, muscle tension and cramping, chest conditions, head congestion and sluggish liver function.

  • Relaxing sheet wrap (60 min): To begin your treatment, a salt glow stimulates greatly increased blood flow whilst exfoliating the skin. You are then cocooned in a cold sheet and an outer blanket is wrapped around the body. The initial stimulating reaction of the cold sheet is quickly followed by a secondary relaxing effect as your body warms the sheet. This treatment is excellent for the relief of insomnia, restlessness, nervous exhaustion, indigestion, and fever. Also highly beneficial as a cleansing treatment due to its ability to remove large amounts of impurities from the body via the skin.
  • Ice massage (20 min): This treatment involves the localised application of ice in a constantly rotating motion. Blood flow is initially decreased, and then increases in the affected area making this an excellent treatment for painful, inflamed joints and muscles (e.g. bursitis, sciatica, back pain, and other muscle and joint injuries).
  • Hot foot bath (45 min): Beneficial and quite versatile, the hot foot bath treatment can be used therapeutically for a wide range of conditions. While in a seated position, the body is wrapped in a sheet and blanket whilst the feet are kept immersed in a tub of hot water. Reflexive relationships between the circulation of the feet and other areas of the body (e.g. lungs, brain, pelvic region, etc.) enable effective relief of congestion from these organs using this treatment. The attending therapist ensures that your head is kept cool and plenty of water is given throughout.
  • Mild fever therapy (60 min): Fever is the body’s natural response to infection and inflammation. The aim of fever therapy is to induce a mild fever condition in which the body reacts in a number of ways. For example, the number of white blood cells is increased as is their rate of movement and activity. The flush of blood to the skin helps facilitate waste removal and allows more effective blood purification by immune cells located in the tissues. Fever therapy is a supervised treatment where a person reclines in a hot spa bath. The body temperature is gradually raised to a mild fever state and is held there for up to 45 minutes by your therapist whilst body temperature and pulse are monitored regularly. A fan blowing cool air and cool compresses to the head help to make the treatment more comfortable. Water or herb teas are given to replace body fluids lost via perspiration. The bath is then cooled to bring the body temperature back to normal. Conditions indicated for this type of treatment include chronic fatigue syndrome, glandular and Ross River Fever, candidiasis, cancer, inflammatory bowel conditions such as ulcerative colitis, arthritis, lupus, rheumatoid type conditions, influenza, colds, herpes, shingles and impetigo.
  • Mineral soak (50 min): Warm extracts from the famous Neyharding Moor of Austria are applied to the skin before entering the bath. Scientific research has been conducted on this highly therapeutic substance for conditions such as arthritis, hormonal imbalances, nervous system disorders, skin conditions and mineral imbalances. The skin absorbs the beneficial properties of herbs and minerals naturally contained in the extract, imparting deep therapeutic benefits.
  • Aqua massage (15 min): Circulation is stimulated using high-pressure, alternating hot and cold spray jets. Aqua Massage leaves your muscles feeling invigorated, yet relaxed. It can also assist in the treatment of cellulite.
  • Self-spa bath (30-40 min): A bath in either our deep, single-person spa bath or in our shell spa bath. Specially designed for those with mobility difficulties, the shell spa bath simply swivels under you while you remain seated in a stationary position. Mineral salts are provided for absorption and relief of sore muscles and cramps.

Therapeutic skin treatments

  • Skin indulge deluxe (60 min): An excellent treatment for many skin conditions by improving the circulation to the skin as well as nourishing it to better health. First a neck, shoulder and facial massage gives a state of deep relaxation and releases powerful ‘anti-stress’ hormones called endorphins. Our own freshly prepared, special blend face mask is then applied. The natural white clay in the mask has a detoxifying effect, while the ground linseed and essential oils nourish your skin. Then a 20-minute foot massage is given to add to the desired effect before the face mask is removed at the end of the treatment. Suitable for all skin types.
  • Clay body wrap (60 min): Clay is a complex mixture of active minerals which have the ability to draw impurities from the body into the clay. Warm, fine clay is applied over the entire body. The clay draws and removes impurities and toxins through the skin, can help balance mineral deficiencies, and imparts antiseptic/cleansing properties all while you enjoy the relaxing effect and warmth of the clay wrap. An indispensable treatment in any cleanse/detox regimen. This treatment is particularly good for arthritic conditions, eczema and psoriasis, fluid retention and weight gain.
  • Skin tonic (45 min): An invigorating salt rub to remove dead skin and enhance circulation followed by an aqua massage to improve circulation to the skin, finished off with a short massage that leaves your skin renewed.
  • Power glow (60 min): Includes Russian steam bath, salt glow, aqua massage with jet showers, and luxury body butter. Leaves you relaxed, refreshed, and silky smooth.
