The Masseria is a stunning and impressive example of a traditional Pugliese farmhouse, constructed in local limestone by wealthy landowners at the beginning of the 18th century. Lovingly and respectfully restored by its British owners, wonderful original features abound, such as the fabulous vaulted communal rooms on the ground floor, whilst all rooms have been decorated, furnished and equipped to offer guests every modern comfort in simple and elegant style.

The main kitchen, dining room and two vast sitting rooms are located on the ground floor, the kitchen leading out onto a large, shaded terrace with a lovely view over the gardens to the pool and trulli. A perfect place for those delicious barbecues and, for cooler times of the year, guests can enjoy a huge open log fire in one of the sitting rooms.

Upstairs accommodation comprises an elegant 4-bedroom apartment and a stylish 2-bedroom apartment, linked at the rear by a terrace with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside (part of the masseria estate). The stylish and traditional accommodation and grounds are vast, allowing you space between activities and room to wander and reflect. It has a singular ambience; a sense of calm and quiet beauty that encourages study, self-development and contemplation.

On these retreats, Chillout Retreats international experts will be teaching traditional Hatha yoga fused with Vinyasa flow which is strong, powerful and rejuvenating and covers many of the well-known and popular asanas. Yoga teaches us how to relax and restore the own power within your bodies whilst stilling the mind at the same time. You can expect to work strongly, smoothly and develop a deep sense of awareness in these classes.

Aside from the yoga classes, there will also be a few Pilates classes available to help strengthen your core, improve posture and protect your spine. The lessons are suitable for any ability and will raise your heartbeat and strengthen you from your very core, they are also designed to aid the elimination process. A prefect way to renew yourself.

Meditation

By quieting the chattering mind and developing loving kindness, you can really be open to experience what is going on in the present. How much time do you spend thinking about the past or the future without actually living and breathing each precious moment now? After all we cannot change the past nor predict the future but we can shape our present.

Meditation is now well regarded as a life skill. As you use yoga or Pilates to strengthen and exercise your body, you can use meditation to strengthen and gain control of your brain and mind. After all, it is a muscle too. It is a tool that can help aid concentration, sharpen the senses and inspire minds. The beauty in even the smallest thing can be appreciated after only a few meditation sessions.

During this retreat, you will learn different meditation techniques and practices that can be used everyday, such as the mindfulness of breathing, the Metta Bhavana, chakra balancing and walking meditations. Once you have learnt how to calm the mind you can meditate anywhere, in the bath, on the tube or whilst out walking. Even the most active minds needs a rest and without too much effort, so much can be achieved.

This retreat is located in the heart of Puglia in 'the house of the gypsy'. The venue was built in 1710 and has been beautifully restored in a stylish and tasteful manner with every attention paid to detail. It is set in an amazing and vast 20 acres of gardens with grape vines, fig, cherry, and olive groves.

The cuisine on retreat is detox-orientated, nutritionally balanced and well thought out to provide you with enough vital vitamins, minerals and energy to keep you tip-top throughout your stay. Toxins in the body result from poor diet, stress, pollution, drug use, the water you drink and environmental exposure. The body tends to accumulate impurities from many different sources including food additives, pesticides, vehicle exhaust fumes, medical drug residues and internal body processes. If you are distressed, under par or overweight, the natural elimination of these waste products may be too slow for the body in the long term. This is why Chillout Retreats help to kick start a healthier lifestyle whilst on retreat and their detox cuisine helps to cleanse to help your system enabling it to cope with the daily demands placed on it.

Detox juices

  • Every day on a Chillout retreat begins with a wheatgrass shot plus a detox, vitamin and nutrient packed fresh juice or smoothie.

Breakfast

  • Selection of Dorset muesli, cereals, yogurts, fruit, toasts, tea's, O.J.

Freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices

  • Calming carrot, apple, cucumber or detoxing beetroot, apple and ginger.

Lunch

Soups, cheeses, pates, sushi, olives, humus, dips, breads, two salads per day (varieties of bean, carrot, waldorf, green, pasta, lentil, rice salads rotated daily). Some lunches are packed on international retreats to allow for day trips. Detox superfoods, soups and juices are provided on all detox retreats.

Arrival by airplane

The nearest airport is Bari. Scheduled transfers are arranged for you. The arrival transfers on Saturday are at 1 p.m. The departure transfers on Saturday start at 7 a.m. and at 10 a.m. The cost of scheduled transfers are included in the retreat price. Other times are available and can be arranged for you at your own cost.

    PROS Pros: The location was stunning....The classes were equally good for my novice husband and also myself - even though we have different yoga experience.     "Chill out Retreats exceeded my expectation. The group was very inclusive irrespective of yoga level. The venue at Champneys was great but by far the most outstanding aspect of the weekend was Natalie. Her style and balance between yoga, personal lifestyle and way of being was very encouraging and uplifting. Great weekend , when I arrived on Friday night I was very stressed out and by Saturday morning the tension had just gone."

    "I did enjoy the retreat thank you. I found it very relaxing, and the people I met were lovely. However, I have a few comments that I’d like to make that I hope will help to improve things for future retreats:"

    "1) I was a bit disgruntled to find out (after I had eaten it!) that there was barley in the Saturday night meal. I am gluten intolerant and had filled out a form saying so two weeks before the retreat. I would have expected there to be a gluten free alternative at every meal or at least made clear that it contained gluten before I ate it. As it turned out, I was totally fine afterwards so it was no big deal for me, but might have been for others."

    "2) the yoga was quite slow and repetitive. We did a very similar and slow paced class for all four yoga sessions and I guess I just expected it to be a bit more varied and there to be a few more options to work a bit harder for fitter people in the group. I totally understand that you have to cater for all levels in each class but more than half the class were very fit and active and I felt like we could have done with a bit more heat. Especially for the Saturday morning class which I left feeling quite under-worked and like I needed to go for a run to work off some energy!"

    "3) the massage was lovely but we were charged more than double the masseurs normal going rate. I don’t know if this is normal commission rates (?) but it seems a bit steep to me. We found a flier from the masseuse showing her normal rate shown to be 30 GBP. I was charged 65 GBP."

As a rule we do offer different levels, variety and options to suit our guests wide range of abilities in classes. On this particular retreat we did have a couple of guests requiring extra care, recovering from invasive cancer treatment, so the teacher felt it more appropriate to keep the retreat 'chilled out' as that is the vibe what we hoped to create for everyone. The treatment rates are fixed across all venues and are inline with current prices and, quite rightly as you pointed out here, do reflect commissions and treatment room rentals that we have to pay. Once again thank you for your feedback and we are pleased that you did enjoy the retreat, found it very relaxing and enjoyed meeting the lovely people. Chillout Retreats"

    "I was lucky enough to WIN a CHILLOUT RETREAT at the OM Yoga Show in London last October. My first ever retreat! I was so impressed with the beautiful Barn venue and vast views over Arundel. What made it so special was that Chillout Retreats is family run by sisters Nat and Lucy - Nat teaches yoga and mindfulness, while Lucy dishes up delicious, nourishing veggie food. Their daughters helped with mealtimes, cooking pancakes and making desserts and even clearing away the dishes. Together, they created a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. There were 3 yoga classes and 1 yogalates class over the weekend, each with a different theme - from restorative to dynamic, with easy-to-follow guidance and lots of fun with balancing and partner poses. I enjoyed doing core and stability moves, balancing a ball on your back, and imagining you're a king prawn in a sushi roll, while lying back over your partner in childs pose. We also had two long evening mindfulness sessions, on the breath and on compassion. It's so rare in modern life to treat yourself to a longer meditation. I was a little nervous about who was going to be on the retreat, and how we would mix, but Nat & Lucy created an optimal environment for us to relax and have a laugh together. We ate together, went on a walk exploring the beautiful cathedral, castle and surrounding countryside in monsoon rains, (we saw the funny side!) and had fun creating and sharing visions in a life coaching workshop. The retreat lived up to its title for everyone, and the following Monday morning, when my daughter shared the fact that she hadn't brought her homework book home over the weekend, and had lost all her uniform shirts in the last couple of weeks, there were no raised voices, just two people calmly discussing the best way forward. That's the power of Chillout Retreats."

    "I can honestly say it was a very refreshing and revealing weekend, and I came back feeling very calm and rested and, in the main, have managed to keep that calmness with me ever since. My mind seems much less cluttered, and more able to focus and stay focused, and I know Jo has benefitted from being able to get a decent deep sleep most nights which is a big plus for both of us. We laugh most days but mostly when we are happy and chilled - you can benchmark how good a weekend is by our laughter, so I think that demonstrates an A+ for this one."

    "These sessions made me feel like I had been on holiday for a month as I reconnected with my mind and body. I liked that the chillout team joined in on the classes - as it felt like we were all having the same experiences together. I left the weekend feeling very nurtured by everyone and best of all feeling nurtured by myself.     "It was such a good little break, loved all the yoga, food, beautiful walk, and a really nice bunch of people.
