Why are there no single rooms available for this retreat?

This retreat is called "Disconnecting to Reconnect" and part of East West Retreats' intention is for you to go on this journey with another human being, allowing you to learn, through a wider lens, what dropping into connecting to yourself and others feels like. If you are looking for privacy, this might not be the retreat for you

Are there any private rooms available?

Because this retreat focuses so heavily on connection, East West Retreats is only offering one single room option. If this does not sound like your cup of tea, East West Retreats recommends you come to another one of their retreats.

What if I need to get a hold of a family member or friend?

East West Retreats understands that not everyone may have the ability to fully digitally detox. For that reason, East West Retreats does have a land line available for use at all time. And if you need to use your own phone or connect to the internet for any reason, Mendocino town is just 10 minutes away, and East West Retreats can easily transport you there when needed. Please note that there is no wi-fi service at The Farm.

Double farmhouse

Deluxe master

For those who need the privacy and space, the Blue Barn master bedroom is for you. It features a king-sized comfortable bed and an attached private bathroom. This room can be booked for one or two people. One two two spots left.

Rustinc camping experience

Get the full natural immersion in a large tent that sleeps two people very comfortably, with room for luggage. Sleeping bags provided. One air mattress available. Ask East West Retreats if you woud like them to arrange it for you. Outdoor shower as well as indoor shared bathroom available. Only three tents are left for booking.

Every day, your mind is filled with the noise of Facebook, Instagram, texts, emails, phone calls, and TV. From the instant you open your eyes in the morning until your last waking moment each night, you face this constant influx of distractions. This 24/7 "hyper connection" is often the one thing keeping you disconnected from yourself, each other, and this beautiful and nourishing world you live in.

But what happens when all of that "noise" goes away, and becomes quiet? That's when the reconnecting begins. Without all the noise and distractions, you create the space to look at the world through a new lens - one that is more mindful, grounded, peaceful, quiet, and perhaps more blissful.

On this four-night, five-day retreat, you will begin your digital detox by shutting your phone off and storing it in a safe, hidden place, alongside everyone else on the retreat. Once the phones and other technology are turned off and stored, you will ceremonially enter the so-called "reconnection space". There is no Wi-Fi here, but you can rest assured the connection is much better.

Once you enter this reconnection space, you will focus on its three core elements:

  • Reconnect with yourself through daily silence, journaling, yoga and meditation, and get in touch with your inner world.
  • Reconnect with others and someone close to you with partner-centered accommodations, group communication workshops, games, and exercises. Learn how to listen, hold space, and empathize with another to create happier, healthier, and more harmonious relationships where you can deeply connect with each other.
  • Reconnect with nature on group hikes and daily individual walks, and notice how you naturally connect to the slower pace of nature. And when your body needs fuel, fill it up with vibrant, wholesome organic meals and see how fun it is when you learn how to heal yourself with food in the Eating to Heal raw food workshop.

This retreat is meant to be a journey you take with another person in your life. Whether it is your mom, partner, best friend, cousin or neighbor, this is the space for you to spend quality time with someone who you wish to connect (or re-connect) deeply with.

Together, you can dive deeply into your worlds and transform through the authenticity and vulnerability that is created from that connection. That's why you might notice there aren't many single rooms available (only one, in fact). You are encouraged to book this retreat with someone that you love (or really like), and enjoy the companionship with that person through a new lens. What waits for you on the other side of this five-day journey with another human? That magic is for you to discover.

Yoga classes

You will be practicing a Vinyasa and Yin yoga combination. Often, this will be a 50/50 mix of vigorous Vinyasa balanced with restorative Yin yoga. This style of yoga allows you the freedom to feel into the somatic experience of movement and remain mindful throughout the practice. All levels and ages are welcome.

The retreat can be regarded as a spiritual yoga retreat, as it will have many spiritual elements to it. Your collective experience and knowledge is deeply rooted in spirituality, and East West Retreats do their best to honor the traditions and teachings that have been passed down to them without losing sense of what these teachings are meant to achieve.

Digital detox

A digital detox, by definition, is a period of time during which a person refrains from using electronic devices such as smartphones or computers, regarded as an opportunity to reduce stress or focus on social interaction in the physical world.

During this digital detox, any use of technology will be prohibited, with the exception of a disposable camera that you will be given on the first day of the retreat. Also, please note that there is no Wi-Fi service available on-site.

  • Krystal Penrose

    (Yoga)

Krystal Penrose began to immerse herself in the art of connecting yoga and meditation in her 200-hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India. This immersion developed into a huge passion for blending the ancient wisdom and traditions of the East with the fluid eclectic elements of yoga from the West. Because of this, her teaching incorporates many styles, philosophies, and traditions including Hinduism, Daoism, Buddhism, Tantra, Qi Gong, Ayurveda, dance as well as Reiki.

  • Andrew Golightly

Andrew is a qualified counselor and certified life coach who has been practicing counseling since 2009. He has always loved connecting with people, but he started in computer science. Then one day while working in a computer laboratory in England, Andrew knew he had to work more personally, one-on-one with others. So he flew to Australia and studied counseling. Journeying with people into their inner worlds brings him such joy. Andrew is now a location-independent professional, still working in the web development world, as well as a counselor. He loves to travel, and does so extensively.

  • Emah Schwartz

Emah is a Northern California native with a love for connecting those around her with real food. After a year of working on various organic farms in New Zealand and Hawaii, she began her official education of holistic nutrition at Bauman College in Berkeley, where she graduated as a Certified Nutrition Consultant. Soon after, she moved to Austin, Texas to attend an extensive vegetarian culinary program at The Natural Epicurean of Culinary Arts. Emah loves the process of helping others transform their health through sustainable and wholesome vitality.

    A little unorganized

CONS Cons: The retreat was pretty unorganized and the hosts ended up have some altercations with the people who owned the location and were asked to leave the property. One of the cars that transported people from SFO airport to Mendocino broke down. The hosts did not seem concerned with figuring out how to get people to the airport on the last day. Luckily a few of the other attendees were able to drive more than half the group to the airport. Lovely people, but the host, Krystal, was unorganized and unprofessional.

PROS Pros: The people who also attended were great.

Organizer response: Hi there, Thanks for leaving your feedback. I put a lot of my heart and soul into these retreats so it is absolutely necessary for me to hear all feedback, both good and bad. So thank you for taking the time to leave your opinion, I appreciate it. I'm sorry to hear you that your experience on the retreat was that it was disorganized and that I acted in an unprofessional way. I will definitely take that into consideration when hosting future retreats so that everyone attending feels safe, happy and cared for in an organized way. I hope that there were some positive things you took from the experience as well, and I just want to say thanks again for leaving your honest feedback. It was a pleasure meeting you :) Krystal

    A Week with Krystal

CONS Cons: If one looks for intense yoga practice with meditation and self awareness courses, than this retreat would not fulfil their expectations.

PROS Pros: It was my first yoga retreat and I had low expectations. I choose this retreat for the location, which was perfect. Remote in the mountains, with open view of the Mediterranean sea. Food cooked at the location was amazing. We also did couple of tours and the whole week was more of a relaxing by the sea kind of experience. It suited me perfectly.

Overall, the retreat felt like it had a really lovely balance of structure and flow, and really delivered on its intention of disconnecting to reconnect."

"I am still traveling in India but I must say the location for the retreat was Ideal! I thoroughly enjoyed Rishikesh, and it helped me gain confidence for the next part of my journey. The retreat was planned very well as there were many things to do each day and it was super exciting to be a part of the maiden voyage. Krystal gathered fantastic, well educated, and vibrant teachers. Each of them made my experience magical. I learned so much from this retreat, many great golden nuggets to take with me, different alignment for yoga asana, different ways of meditation and lots of chanting and education to boot!"

"Just got back from India, and I cannot put into words what a life-changing and amazing experience I had with East West Retreats. Krystal is so detail-oriented and she goes beyond to assist participants inadequately preparing for the retreat. She was always available to answer any questions leading up to the trip and she laid out all the sometimes-overwhelming aspects of international travel. Once we arrived in India, I felt immediately comfortable, safe, and taken care of. Every detail followed the expectations set. Our accommodations were outstanding, good location, peaceful, with enough amenities for comfort and still authentic to India and the experience. I thought the retreat had the perfect balance of classes or workshops (not to mention our teachers were all top quality!), excursions, activities planned, as well as free, and flexible time. I could not imagine a better experience for my first time in India. Krystal goes above and beyond to add personalized details to the experience and she is so good at rolling with the punches and remaining flexible and flowing with the unexpected things that pop up during the travel. I highly recommend East West Retreats if you are looking for an authentic, well-planned, and enriching travel or retreat experience."
