Detoxification is a natural process of neutralizing or eliminating toxins from the human body. Toxins (anything that can lead to damage to the body tissue)are chemically converted to less harmful materials, which are then excreted from our body. 

Toxins may be derived from normal processes in our body which are carried out by entering food. For example, ammonia is produced during the decomposition of the proteins, or by inhalation or intake of chemicals, such as pesticides, cleansing agents, food additives, drugs, pollution, cigarette smoke, and heavy metals such as lead.

Although detoxication is primarily considered as treatment from alcohol and drug addiction, the term also relates to a diet focused on the removal of organic and dietary toxins from the body, and with a view to optimize health. Lately, an increasing number of people practices various detox diets several times a year to maintain a healthy and balanced life. Detoxification plans may include special diets, supplements, and herbs, hydrotherapy, exercise, breathing and/or therapy in the sauna. Here, we’re sharing with you a guide to a detox program that will help you purify the body, clear the mind, increase your focus and restore lightness and verve.

Proper cleaning involves three major components that affect your body’s ability to detox effectively. Reducing meal portions is the first step, and it involves avoiding toxins from entering the body through consumption. For example, alcohol is always excluded from a detox process and it is advised not to drink any alcoholic beverage. The second step involves the consumption of organic food, which is great for the health of the liver and destroys a large number of toxins.  If you’re going through a detox, it is recommended to eat a herbal-based diet, which is believed to be filled with ingredients that are "killing" toxins through different channels. The body needs energy in order to be cleansed. Without specific antioxidants and vitamins, the body does not have enough power to fulfill what is expected of it during detoxification. This is the biggest mistake that most people do during the diet, which is also the third step of the proper cleansing of the body. Therefore, it is necessary to provide your body with enough care, because otherwise, the toxins will only circulate the body and cause uneasiness.


Make water your favorite drink

Forget about your favorite cocktail, a glass of wine, beer or delicious liqueurs! Give your body time and space to get rid of any remaining alcohol in the bloodstream and liver and increase the consumption of water. In the morning, drink 1 liter of warm water as soon as you wake up. This will hydrate your body after several hours of sleep, run and accelerate metabolism, stimulate digestion and eliminate constipation. During cooler days, drink water that is at room temperature (around 27 degrees) and hot teas. One of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to detoxing the body is go hungry. No, no and no! When you are hungry, your body is under stress! Instead of subscribing to the belief that the denial of tasty bites will shed extra pounds and contribute to cleansing the body of toxins, rather change your way of thinking and turn towards two to three healthy snacks in the menu. Prunes, raisins, walnuts, India walnuts, hazelnuts and sunflower seeds are ideal for this purpose.
