During this retreat, you will be staying at Guava House. The house is situated on top of a hill, amongst three acres of its own private land and with 360 degree views of the valley below and the Bible Rock. It is located on a rubber tree estate. Thatched roofs and open living areas create a sense of spaciousness, simplicity, and freedom. Accommodation is in five bedrooms, including four double rooms and a single room. All offer private en-suite bathrooms, mosquito nets, and ceiling fans. Each double bedroom has a king size bed and a single bed.

Sanasuma Yoga and Detox Retreats Program

Fiona and Shaunagh are both qualified Kundalini yoga teachers and they will be teaching you throughout the week. Chef German Dimaano, a four-star rated chef from Melbourne, will create his magic in the kitchen producing a vegetarian diet for your six-night stay at Guava House. German will also give cooking demonstrations and tips during the cooking workshops of the week to inspire and show you how to make healthy food at home.

The practice of Kundalini yoga has amazing and immediate results and insures lasting long term physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits. As an integrated and authentic system of exercise, breath control, and meditation that has been practiced in India for millennia, it is safe, comprehensive, and simple. It promotes physical health, taps and stimulates the mind's potential, awakens consciousness, and touches one's innermost being. You can heal your body and soothe your soul when you regularly practice these powerful techniques.

Daily schedule

The timetable will have slight variances each day but is generally as follows:

  • The day always starts at dawn with early morning yoga and meditation in a beautiful location
  • Delicious tropical fruits and home made muesu, baffalo curd, and green soup
  • Pranayama session
  • Healthy Ayurvedic brunch
  • Free time to swim, take a massage, reiki healing, cycle through the small villages, take a nap, rest, and relax
  • Afternoon tea and sweet treat
  • Kundalini yoga and meditation
  • Dinner and early bed for an early start

All classes and activities are optional. However, courses have been well planned to give a good balance between yoga and meditation in beautiful outdoor energetic settings. You will be encouraged to follow all classes. However, you are asked to let Sanasuma Yoga know if you are skipping classes.


Shaunagh Aluwihare

Shaunagh moved back to England in 2014 and has been teaching in Cambridge since April 2015. She lived in Sri Lanka for 15 years, and taught regularly in Colombo for seven years. She has a passion for life and is full of fun and laughter. She makes yoga playful whilst teaching from the heart creating a cozy, intimate, and healing space, which allows you to explore your inner and outer space. She specialises in pregnancy yoga teaching students to befriend the breath, to control and direct their emotions to find inner strength and reserves to manage the challenges of childbirth.
Kundalini Research Institute (Kundalini Yoga)
Yoga Alliance RYT 200 (Kundalini Yoga)
Fiona discovered the transformational effect of Kundalini Yoga in South America, having left a stressful job as a lawyer in London. She has been teaching Kundalini Yoga for 12 years, is Level 1 and 2 KRI Certified teacher and is presently a teacher trainer in the Aquarian Academy. Her classes are infused with rhythm and music. She uses the sacred science of Kundalini yoga kriyas and meditations to assist students in daily challenges and relationships. Her background in the corporate world, enables her to build a bridge of understanding for individuals and groups. She also gives Gong baths.

On this retreat, you can enjoy three vegetarian meals a day. All meals are freshly prepared Sri Lankan and South Asian vegetarian cuisine. Foods are prepared by German Dimaano, a four-star rated chef from Melbourne.

The food at the retreat is simply delicious and very healthy. It is almost entirely vegan, naturally sugar and wheat free, with an abundance of fresh vegetables, mainly organic foods, red rice, and tropical fruit freshly picked from local small holders gardens. This is a good opportunity to detoxify your system without fuss.

Special diets cannot be catered for but it is fairly easy to pick and choose depending on your taste from the many dishes served at each meal. Sanasuma Yoga would encourage you to spend time detoxing from the foods you usually consume so they do not encourage you to bring these foods with you.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) in Sri Lanka. There are direct flights with Sri Lankan Airlines, British Airways, and a number of other operators. If you inform Sanasuma Yoga in advance, they will arrange transport from Colombo to the retreat for you. They will arrange to meet at a common pick-up point.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 100% of the total price.
  • The deposit is fully refundable if the booking is cancelled up to 7 days before the arrival date.
