Bill Brundell

Born in NZ many moons ago (1955) Bill was Authorized to teach in 2000 by Sri K Pattabhi Jois Level 2 Bills intentions as a teacher are to keep the teaching as authentic as possible. For Bill the attraction to this method is the depth of it. One never stops learning, everyone can do it and can practice it for as long as one can breath. It's a very practical approach to self realisation which strips away the unnecessary by its flexibility to be adapted to the individual using the breath as the binding thread. He move to Stockholm Sweden in 2005 and has been teaching Mysore style there since.

I spent 6 days at the Yoga Retreat and it was exactly what I wanted and more. Firstly, the yoga classes and teachers were brilliant, and I have left the retreat with a deeper understanding and connection to the practice. I am relatively new to yoga, but have learnt so much in those few days. The people there were outstanding, especially Claire Yates who made sure everyone was taken care of. The Raw Cafe was delicious and looked forward to every meal there! Words cannot describe how awesome that time at the retreat was, I cannot wait to go back!

We stayed at the yoga retreat for the 5 day course and we loved it. They cater to all yoga levels with ease in their unled ashtanga classes. The classes were more challenging than we expected but so much more rewarding after our stay because we really pushed ourselves and because the classes weren't led, we were able to leave with the confidence to practice yoga by ourselves after.

The accommodation was humble and very comforting. The food was amazing, some of the best food we'd had in Thailand (try the mango pie) but the whole experience was really made by the people there. Everyone was so welcoming and encouraging from the get go, creating a really lovely atmosphere in the place the whole time. Thank you to Teresa and Kes for having such dedication to their practice, and a big thanks to Claire for having a beautiful and open soul and being so easy to talk to, we really appreciate everything you did for us and we might just see you again in the future when we're back for more.

The Yoga retreat is amazing! The overall yoga experience and accommodation was earthy and relaxing. Well, as relaxing as Mysore style Ashtanga can be. We stayed for the 30 day training, and stayed at the retreat. I now self practice and have one of the best lifestyle tools out there! We had lectures, meditation and pranayama practice, great for a solid introduction without complete overload, rooms were comfortable, although not air-conditioned, but that added to the experience for us, and the owners and staff really made us feel like part of a family. There are 3 beaches within a good walking distance, ranging from 15 to 35 minutes, we walked often.

I came into this retreat quite blank, with not that much knowledge of yoga. It was quite a surprise for me that i had to learn all the postures from my head, and get lectures of the philosophy. The classes have a no nonsense type of teaching to it, i love it. Show that you are willing to do your best and you will get the most out of it. After a week i was so amazed en touched, Kess and Teresa certainly opened my eyes and this environment has been amazing. It was a great week and i even extended a few days. If my flight would not have been booked already i would have booked even longer maybe. It was the best week of my time in Thailand, just lovely to work on yourself in the morning, and then during the day spend time with like minded people and have fun or just relax. The detox was very well guided and good to endure!

This retreat is truly special. Set in an amazing location, with delicious food, inspiring teachers and friendly staff, it is by far the best month I have spent on the island! My yoga practice has improved dramatically and I have learnt so much about myself and others though the incredible philosophy you have opened my eyes to. Thank you!

This was my second visit to the Yoga Retreat - I had a wonderful and transformative month last year and had to return this year for almost three months. This is a very special place run by kind, encouraging teachers who make sure you feel at home during your stay and have the chance to really make the most of your time practicing yoga or detoxing. It would be worth visiting just to practice on the open wooden yoga Shala which is truly magical. I can't recommend the Yoga Retreat enough.

I joined the 5 day Ashtanga and pranayama retreat. And it exceeded my expectations and helped me grow as a person. And even in this short space of time, I have made life long like-minded friends and grown to look deeper within. It is nestled in the jungle with a fantasy restaurant. Thank you Teresa and Kes. Such amazing people full of love and light.

I have joined the 5 days retreat in August as a solo traveller.

The place is great if you know what you are looking for:

      - competent yoga teachers

      - asthanga and hatha yoga classes suitable for every level

      - pranayama classes

      - exciting yoga lectures held by Kes, the Asthanga teacher

      - Reiki treatment (Theresa's one is a mind blowing experience)

      - steaming room open 3 days a week

      - vegetarian and vegan restaurant (a bit pricey but yummy food is ensured! And outside the retreat there's a lady cooking excellent dinners for just 50 baht)

It's the perfect place also if you're not sure what you're looking for!

As a solo traveller who started only recently yoga, I wasn't sure what to expect. I have met incredible people and had a lovely time, despite not being able to move from the retreat due to a foot injury. At the end of the week you really feel like in a family!

Most of the girls extended their stay, and I am planning to be back for a 1 month intensive retreat.

This experience left a deep and warm memory in our lifes! Thank you so much for a wonderful time. These nice and grounded people created a wonderful place for real yoga experiences. This is no "Chichi" place for people who want to chill out with beer and cigarettes. Of course you can hang out with this guys perfect but when there is time for the practise, you have to work and this is wonderful!

If you are looking for a place where your body and your soul can get new energy and make new experience - if you love really good classes of vinyasa, hatha and meditation and enjoy fresh vegetarian food-- go to this little spot in paradise and enjoy your development !

Thank you for making my 60 years young mother making a headstand!!!

I've stayed there for 2 weeks for my chakra healing program and I totally enjoyed my stay there. I wanted to extend my stay, but couldn't because I

wasn't able to change my schedule. If you expect a fancy room with airconditioners, this isn't the right place for you. This place is simple and straight forward. Ashtanga yoga that you practice here was great, i couldn't enjoy more. The food there is the best food that I've ever had in Thailand, and all are so healthy! It's slightly pricey than other restaurants, but you'll see why once you try. It totally worths it! I really enjoyed raw pastas and breakfast menus there. If you stay in the place they take good care of your room, cleaning it every week. I loved lecture, too. They don't pretend to be spiritual and family like environment, but I could feel my spritual growth as well, not just my body. Talking about body, I was so surprized that I could have changed my body so quickly, AND my body awareness. There is a small library that you can enjoy, and I enjoyed reading some yoga related books there. I received 2 Reiki session and I loved it, and also the pranayama and meditation class gave me a good tool to keep my practice going. I really enjoyed staying there. This was already my second visit, and I'd like to visit again if there's any chance.

I've stayed at the Yoga Retreat for a month with my best friend. We never did yoga before but we were looking to spend some time to take care of ourselves.

At first we thought we would have not been able to go through a whole month of yoga. But in the end we were transformed physically and mentally.. Everyone was amazing, and our teachers, Theresa and Kes were fabulous.

At the Yoga Retreat you have the chance to meet incredible people from all over the world and share experiences, travel tips, emotions and laughter.

The food is really good. The place is super close to the beach (15 mins of walk) and overlooking the beautiful jungle.

I do miss every day of my stay and hope to be back very soon!!

I stayed at the yoga retreat for a week in May and had a great time! I have practiced yoga back home but it was my first encounter with Ashtanga. It was such a great experience and definitely a highlight of my trip. The people at the retreat are so welcoming and kind, the place had a really nice family feel to it. The food was also amazing. Thank you :)

Been there twice now, I love the energy and vibe. There's enough possibilities to connect with others, but if you prefer to unwind by yourself that's just totally fine as well. Totally helped me get back on a loving and healthy path! Love the way the yoga is taught!

If you're extremely focused on luxury fancy resorts with not a single bug to be spotted, you might want to prep yourself before you go. The retreat is really next to the jungle but that's also the beauty of it!

I will definitely be back as soon as possible:)!

I was on a 5-day programme at The Yoga Retreat in May 2016 which was an absolutely amazing experience from the beginning to the end.

I had never done Ashtanga Mysore before, but I quickly felt really comfortable going through the postures with all the guidance we got from Kes during the classes. The combination with Ashtanga Mysore in the morning and Hatha in the afternoon, beautifully guided by Sara and Claire, was a great combination that made me feel energised during the day and relaxed at the end of the day after the Hatha class.

I opted for the meditation class with Teresa as well, where she guided us to a number of meditation practised that I could immediately take back home and start to practise on my own.

The whole experience with being in the jungle and staying at a retreat and living closely together with other people (who happened to be amazing human beings) was really quite a transformational experience for me and come Friday, I was not ready to leave. Top that up with amazing vegan food and friendly caring staff and you got The Yoga Retreat on Koh Phangan!

Thank you Teresa, Claire, Steph, Sara, Kes, Wim and the rest of the staff! I'll definitely be back!

My husband and I just finished the month long course and stayed at the shala! It was truly amazing! We both had the best time!

I had very limited yoga exposure prior to attending here and the amount I have been able to come away with…wow!

      We are now "Ashtangies"…

Mysore style is amazing and truly wonderfully conveyed by the yoga retreat team! Everyone went out of their way to treat you like a member of the family and not just a paying customer…the rooms were earthy and practical, the food was really amazing and nutritional!

The beach picture is from Mae Head a 15 minute or so walk from the retreat!

Thank you all and hopefully we will be back and you will see me in Lotus!

I had a 5 day introduction to Mysore Ashtanga. The class covered the practice in depth in morning asana, philosophy class with a group discussion, and various types of meditation daily. The teachers are very helpful and teaches yoga in traditional approach but also how it could be practiced to modern society to fit individual lifestyles.

We stayed 10 days and had an absolutely wonderful time. The yoga classes are great, we both learned a lot, not only postures but also about the philosophy, meditation etc. But everything and everyone is down to earth and very kind. The food was one of the best we had in Thailand - (me as a meat-eater even liked the raw-food dishes...) Location: 10min walk downhill to a very nice beach. We would definitely come back again!

Everything was great - Steph welcomed me very warm and we had such much fun. I really enjoyed the Ashtanga Group and found my interest in meditation. The food was awesome! I really miss the breakfast bowl with coconut milk and I definitely will go back again having yoga lessons and my breakfast. Thank you so much!

It was so nice to escape my everyday week to come to a place like this. I spent a whole month on the retreat and on the 30 days Ashtanga. I slept at Haad Salad beach, because the jungle was too noisy for me to sleep in, but other than that, the retreat was incredible. The teachers (so great and so kind), the retreat keepers, the students and the food is something I will not forget. It was 30 days with total relaxation. I rented a scooter to cruise around, and it was worth it. You can do a lot more and visit more places on the island with a scooter. Plus, it feel so good to ride in the wind in that warmth in May.

I had a wonderful time at the retreat center. I found the yoga teachers to be extremely knowledgeable, the staff to be incredibly friendly, and helpful, and the environment to be warm and inspiring. I found the 3-day detox and 5-day yoga immersion to be eye opening. I can't wait to integrate the lessons that I learned at your center into my life in NYC. Thank you again for sharing your center with me. I hope that I will have the chance to return with my twin sister.

The Yoga Retreat has been the highlight of my 4 month trip in southeast Asia! Upon welcome, I was greeted with friendly and genuine smiles and upon staying, I gained knowledge that will last a lifetime. My teachers at The Yoga Retreat were very experienced and worked to make a personal connection with me both in and outside of class. The small class sizes allowed them to give me lots of personal attention to improve my practice as well. Both in and out of class, the teachers shared their knowledge on the practice of yoga and its rich spiritual traditions. My room at the retreat was cheerful and clean and the food was outstanding! I left The Yoga Retreat glowing. I leave The Yoga Retreat and its wonderful staff glowing recommendations. They will forever be my standard of a genuine, personal, friendly, and spiritual retreat.

The purpose of my month long stay was to stay grounded and hopefully develop tools to deal with my anxiety and use these in daily life. The retreat, yoga, people, lectures, and teachers gave me these tools and more! Even though I am still a worrier, I feel more calm and relaxed about my future happiness and where I am going. Teachers were gentle, but strong. They gave me inner faith about myself. I loved the adjustments and correct alignment. The room was amazing. I will be dreaming about your hummus salad.
