"From our first contact with Chez Gabard, we were impressed with the friendliness of the owners, Mark and Debra. Although we were late and arrived after 11pm, we were warmly welcomed. Including continental breakfast is excellent, and if you decide to have a dinner at the Chez Gabard, its 4 dishes is fantastic, Mark's standard cook is very high and the portions are generous. The rooms are nicely furnished and the beds are comfortable. All in all a very pleasant stay."

"I was on a bicycle tour of France when I found myself in Chalais one night without accommodation booked in advance. I found the Chez Gabard on the internet and I got a very friendly and warm response when I called to inquire about a room for the night. The house, which is within walking distance of the town, is beautifully presented and the hosts, Deborah and Mark, were very helpful and could not have been nicer. The quality of the rooms, beds, linens and bathrooms was exceptional and breakfast, with freshly ground coffee was fantastic. There is a pool and lovely gardens and, as the price (60 euros), I can not imagine you will find anything better in this part of France. A very well managed and highly recommended business."

"Chez Gabard was much better than we expected. Very affordable, fresh croissants in the morning, nice or kits, very clean and fresh. The owners are lovely. All in all very satisfied with our stay. We were in the wild strawberry suite, had plenty of space and a new bathroom. Beautiful views. Chalais was a very quiet town."

"This place is great. A title says the quality is more what you would expect in a hotel a very small hotel. Very comfortable and nice rooms, good beds, linens, etc. Very warm welcome from Andy and Debra decor. He just put me on my bike and nothing was too much trouble. Very cheap for what it is. They also have 2 enjoyable travel holiday homes ideal for families with young children"

"perfect place. Mark and Debbie were warm and welcoming even though it was late and we were just out of season. They opened their doors in any case and what a delight it was to find an impressive Chalet with the warmth and comfort of a home away from home. Perfect room, cozy breakfast, good location just outside the small town for a country break or if you are passing through. Large size room, bathroom, very elegant and very clean with everything you would expect plus two great hosts. Thanks for a wonderful stay."

"What an amazing place to stay. The only negative was that we were only staying for the weekend. We were made to feel very welcome from the monent we arrived. Shown around the building and gardens etc, all of which are stunning. We stayed in the Sunflower House and it's really nice. Very spacious, comfortable, has French and English TV, stereo, kitchen, lounge area and a comfy bed. For two people we felt like Kings! The pool just outside the house is lovely too. They have two lovely dogs and cats, are set up for spin classes if that's your thing and is only a ten min walk from the centre of Chalais were there is a very lively bar that is a lot of fun. Highly recommend you check this place out if around that way, it's English run and the owners are very chilled and friendly. Stay for a week or more if you can, it's so peaceful. We'll be going back for sure!"
